Weddings Tips 101

Having planned a wedding, all while thoroughly enjoying the entire process, I thought I'd share what wedding tips I came up with.
    • Set a budget and stick to it.
    • Decide early if you want a theme.
    • Give yourself plenty of time to plan.
    • Know your options. Really think about what kind of wedding you want. Do you want a destination wedding, a church wedding, an outdoor wedding? Be sure you know what you want, once you sign contracts you can't turn back. Well, you can, but it'll cost ya!
    • Find a venue that will allow you to bring in your own food/caterer and alcohol-I promise you it will save you so much money. Their preferred caterers are usually much more expensive and their liquor packages are usually 3-4 times higher.
    • Find a liquor rep who can get you liquor at cost or visit your local Sam's Club.
    • Allow yourself plenty of time to plan. There's no need to rush right?
    • Don't stress when something doesn't work out, if it doesn't, then it probably wasn't meant to be. So don't fret if you don't get the location or date you wanted. Your fiancee may tear his achilles tendon 3 months before your wedding date and you'll be glad you got stuck with the later date, so he can walk down the aisle! :)
    • Breath and relax!
    • Get Pinterest!
    • DO look up weddings on ETSY for great and affordable finds!
    • Don't look at dresses after you buy yours. You'll think that you have changed your mind, but I assure you that each time you put that first dress back on, you'll fall in love over and over again.
    • DON'T sleep four to a bed the night before...just sayin'.
    • DON'T forget to put where you are registered in the invitations.
    • DON'T get a grooms cake unless you budgeted for it, there is always left over cake and it's kind of unnecessary.
    • Definitely do a hair run-though before the big day. We thought my hair would take about 45 minutes-it didn't, it took 2 hours. Luckily we found that out at the run-through rather than the day of!
    • Definitely go see Crystyl at Kare-n-Hair for an amazing wedding do!
    • DON'T spend a ton on favors. Guests tend to forget about them and leave them at their tables.
    • DON'T spend a lot on the guestbook. Especially if you have something like a photobooth or a frame for them to sign. So many people show up late or just before the bride walks out so they don't usually think to sign the book. Personally, it was a waste for us. We have maybe 10 signatures, but we had pictures and kind words from our photobooth(that EVERYONE got in).
    • If you can do makeup, do your own. It saves so much time and money. If you have to have someone do it, I highly recommend a test-run to make sure it's exactly how you want it to be. Don't be afraid to tell them you don't like it or to do it differently!
    • If your ceremony will be held someplace that is detailed and architecturally beautiful on it's own, don't do flowers for the ceremony. You spend the least amount of time there. You'll have your bouquets and boutonnieres for pictures. Flowers are too expensive to be lavish and over the top.
    • Avoid bridal fairs, you'll see things that you already know or you'll see things that you want but can't afford.
    • DO choose your bridesmaids wisely.
    • DO ask your bridesmaids to be a part of your big day, in a personal and special way.
    • Stick to your style on jewelry.
    • A trolley or some sort of transportation is totally worth it, again, in my personal opinion.
    • DO call or email people if they don't RSVP. Weddings are expensive. You need to know exactly how much food and alcohol to order.
    • Get your bridesmaid a gift personal to them and their personality, even if this means getting them each their own gift.
    • Do have and engagement party! You can't really ask someone to throw one for you, so this is for everyone who knows someone getting married-throw one for them or suggest it to one of their family members or party members!
    • When giving your DJ your playlist, make sure to pick songs that will make you happy and keep guests not only entertained, but involved!
    • DO having a wedding day attendant! I so wish I would have had one! You don't think of all the small things and little errands that have to take place that day!
    • I'm a fan of save-the-dates, people are so busy these days and need to plan far in advance.
    • Don't spend too much on programs or invitations, or order too many for that matter! People just toss them anyhow!
    • DO focus your budget on the dress, the venue, the food and the photographer!
  • DO remember that this day is about the TWO of you and no one else. This is a marriage not just an event.

I hope this has helped someone, anyone! :)
    Happy planning!
    -Melissa
