A Bedroom Oasis {Sort Of}

So we have officially lived in our house for 2 years now. TIME FLIES. Especially when it comes to redecorating/redoing/remodeling your home. One moment you have all these thoughts and ideas flowing through your head and you're eager to get started on every project that you can. In the next moment, two years have flown by and you realize that you've accomplished nothing. Well, not nothing, but not a whole lot.
When we first moved in I was so eager to decorate our house. I wanted to dive right in. That can be a problem, especially for me. My tastes and styles are changing from day to day. You wouldn't believe how many times I've moved stuff around, put holes in the wall and wished I hadn't, painted rooms that I hated 2 months later. When you have a space that you want to redecorate you should think it out. Imagine what you want the space to be like. Don't expect it to be complete over night, definitely not if you're on a budget. It's ok to slowly add things to a space.
Anyway, when we moved in our bedroom was the last thing on my mind. I figured no one sees it as often(or at all) as they do the other rooms so why should I worry about it? Well two years later, I was sick of seeing it. You spend a lot of time in your bedroom, it should be a place for you to enjoy and relax. So it was time for me to be able to enjoy my room. It's still not complete, but I'll show you the start of it. It would be months before I could show you, if we waited until it was 100% ready. I will slowly add the finishing touches as time goes by and money comes in.
Here it is BEFORE:

As you can see, it was just bland and unattractive. I left the bed a mess for dramatic effect. I despised this wall color(it's from the previous owners). I'm not sure why, everyone else thought it was nice. I guess it just wasn't me. The furniture was mine from my parents and my mom gave me the painting.
Here's another view. The people before also did a terrible job painting, you can see all their streaks.

Ok so first things first, when we moved in my dad painted all the trim in our house white. He did it all except for our bedroom. Booo. So I had to start by painting the trim white. Tedious. Then I primed the walls for the best overall color. Also tedious. :) {Notice the awful fan}

I chose to have a focal wall, so I painted that wall purple and the others gray.

Next was to get rid of that {awful fan} and to replace it with this bad boy...

Next, we built and attached our bed. Kory and I loved doing this project together. It really got our creative juices flowing. We were so proud of ourselves. This was our first DIY project together. I like the end result...a LOT.

Here's the AFTER{thus far}

                              I'm pretty happy with the way it's turning  out. We decided to keep our dresser, it's nice and roomy, it's in great shape and there's just not really a good reason for getting rid of it. One of my favorite things is our wedding canvas from Jana, it works so well in this room. I got the awesome Chevron curtains from Tuftlovefabric on Etsy. The Chevron pillows came from Etsy as well, Festive Home Decor was the seller. The sweet typewriter-table nights stands I got at Good JuJu. I'll have a post talking about those and how I redid them. I may or may not do a post on the bed, we'll see.
To finish it I still would like to get a cute decorative sofa like the one shown here, to go on the wall opposite of the dresser. And I'd like to do a frame collage above the dresser and somehow incorporate my DIY art project and my Tego project. Maybe a nice rug or an ottoman to go at the end of the bed?Then I'll be happy.
Hope you like it so far!
