The Living Room: Phase 1.

As you guys know, we started to update the living room a little bit. We're coming up on 3 years in our house and we still have plenty of work to do. I feel like your home is a never ending project, as you're taste, style and personality are always evolving. For me anyway, I get bored easily, I like to update and change things frequently. Even if that just means rearranging the furniture every couple of months. :) As with just about every room in our home, the living room isn't finished but I thought I'd give you a peek. We've already painted all of the trim and the mantle white, which I think is a must, It makes everything look fresher, cleaner and bigger. I dream of one day having dark, wide(it has to be wide) hardwood floors all throughout our home. I'd like to change the tile on our fireplace. We need a new light fixture in here(we have one, we just need to hang it). I think it would be awesome to have built in bookshelves on either side of the fireplace. Another dream is to finish the basement and not have a tv in the living room at all. Especially since it's a huge eyesore, along with the surround sound. These are all big projects, so they're definitely on the home bucket list. Here's phase one though...
Here's our old hand me down couch and coffee table. Oh and the most adorable pup ever. She was sooo teeny tiny! You can't ignore those bright green walls. I would just like to say that I realize that this color is not for everyone, but I loved it very much! It was such a happy color. The green has come to an end though.
Everything that's pictured on the mantle here has been down for quite some time. Tego's much bigger here!
I think the main reason we drove to Colorado was just so we could stop at Ikea to buy this picture. It was one of those things that I found online and just HAD to get my hands on. I'm so thankful that we were able to make the trip and pick this up. $39.99, you can't beat that! Audrey definitely looks better than the picture of the trees that used to hang there.
This little nook stayed the same, with addition of that awesome deer head from Target. The lamp is also from Target, it's one of my favorites.
Here's a look from our dining room. This view shows our new couch, coffee table and rug. I'm obsessed with this rug. Tego is too, she's made it her new cuddle spot. I was finally able to bring my zebra chair out to play too. The one I'm on the fence about(and always have been) is the big bulky chair from Crate and Barrel. It's Kory's pick though and it's super comfy, so it stays(for now...).
Here's the view from our entryway. Here you can see the barren windows. I'm not quite sure what I want to do here. Maybe get rid of the blinds all together? Just a top treatment? I don't know yet. There is a space above the windows(it's a about a foot tall) where I'd like to line a bunch of frames across, like to line up with the width of the windows. We'll see...
I love placing Kory's deer sheds all around the house. Trust me, we have plenty so you'll see them all over the house. One of my favorite stores is Nell Hill's, it's based out of Atchison, Kansas but she has a secondary store in KC now. That's where I find a lot of the stuff for my home, nearly all of my Christmas decor is from there. Anyway, in this photo those candleholders(I wish I had more, I love the way they look!) and the black and white vase are from there.
Here's a close up.
And another frame collage, I plan on adding to this one.
I just took down all of the Christmas decor last night so now it's time to figure out what I want on the mantle and on the walls behind the tree! The wedding picture will stay and maybe my green trees, all see what else I can drum up and I'll be sure to share the after Christmas photos. I'm also thinking about a new banner, I just loved having the Christmas one up.
Welp, there it is, phase one!

Melissa Loren

  1. Love the progress! Do you ever go to the sales in the West Bottoms? They're the first Friday weekend of each month (so this weekend!) and you can find some AWESOME things. Some things are very reasonably priced, others not so much but it's really fun and you can find things that nobody else has!

    1. I've totally been to the west bottoms! I've done a couple posts on here about my finds! I don't make it often since I work on the weekends, but it's fun when I can make it.
