{Monster Trucks and STL}

This post is a little bit late, but I thought I'd share some pics from our trip to St. Louis in late February. It was supposed to be a super fun getaway because I had been working so hard and really needed a break and wanted Henry to enjoy some fun activities. The universe had other plans though. When we arrived we couldn't check into the hotel yet, so we went straight to the City Museum for the kiddos to run around and have some fun. Immediately, I noticed Henry wasn't feeling too well so I was anxious to get him fed and to the hotel for a nap. As we were heading out to the car, we noticed shattered glass on the ground...
...our car had been broken into. All of our stuff was gone. All of it. Our luggage, the diaper bag, my dslr camera, diapers, wipes, all of Henry's things, everything I had packed for the weekend and then some. I couldn't believe it. In broad daylight, at 10 in the morning. I was heartbroken. Not to mention the busted out window and the damage to the vehicle. We were there with friends and we had already paid for the hotel and the main event, monster trucks. I had to suck it up. I went and bought the necessities it would take to get through the weekend and got Henry to the hotel for a nap. He couldn't sleep because he was miserable. At this point I wasn't quite sure what was wrong with him so we attended dinner and the monster truck show anyway. Henry was a good sport and still loved watching the trucks go fast and do flips! Sweet boy, he'll always put a smile on. Of course it was raining when we were leaving, we had walked the few blocks from the hotel to the stadium. *eye roll emoji* Once we got back to the hotel I checked Henry's temp and it was out of this world. He could barely breathe and his cough was insane. I was so shaken up from the day's events that I was so stressed to take Henry to a hospital so late in stl. I didn't want to be out late at night and I didn't know what insurance would be like in a different city. I decided to ride it out through the night. Henry toss and turned all night long, if he wasn't lying on my chest trying to breathe. Needless to say, neither of us slept a wink. First thing in the morning I was ready to head home. I didn't want to go through with the rest of the trip. I wanted to get my baby home and well and shake the feeling of being violated! It was a cold February morning which made the 3.5 hour drive home, with no window, ZERO FUN. The jerks were kind enough to leave Henry's Paw Patrol blanket so I bundled him up and held up a coat to block him from the wind. It was plastic-wrapped, but the moment we hit the highway, it shredded to pieces. I froze my bum off, but I think I kept him as warm as I could. I went straight to Children's Mercy when we got home, and sure enough, he had croup. My poor bud. My tough guy. My heart. They gave him a steroid and I gave him lots and lots of lovins. What a trip. I was angry for weeks. I bust my ass 24/7 to earn the things that I buy for Henry and myself, I earn them, they're a luxury, not just things I can replace at the drop, and for someone to blatantly steal a child's stuff, my stuff, it really got to me. Sometimes I don't understand this world. At the end of the day I had my baby, we were safe, and although he wasn't 100% healthy, he still had his health. Life goes on, and it's not the first time something like this has happened, so I'm over it and I will definitely be more street smart from here on out.
There were definitely still perks to the trip(like our adorable matching outfits and Henry loving all the trucks) and that's why I want to share some of the pics...
xx,
Melissa Loren
