{Explaining That He Won't Be The Only One}

For the past, almost three years, it's just been me and my sweet boy. He's grown accustom to having his mama to himself and having the world revolve around him. Which, has become more and more apparent as we approach the big 3. Lately, this kiddo is super persistent and almost a little whiny. I think he's had a little *too* much go his way. Or maybe it's the big leap into daycare? Either way, I want to make sure that he doesn't grow up to be one of those entitled children who thinks that they deserve everything or gets everything they want because of parent guilt. Sometimes I want to spoil him since I don't see him as much and I feel like I'm abandoning him when I leave him at daycare, but I have to remember that I'm doing my job and that a toy isn't going to replace our time together, he just needs unconditional love and attention while we are together.
All of this is why I've been consistent with explaining to him that mom has a baby in her belly and that soon enough he'll be a big brother. Sometimes I get the sweetest responses like, "I have a baby sister? Nooo, I has a baby brudder!" :) Other times I get things like, "Baby sister can't have my skittles, dese mine!" Which of course is hilarious, but I try to remind him that sharing is caring, especially with his sweet sister. Because the other day I made a dozen chocolate chip cookies, plated them and put them on the coffee table so that we could all snack on them. Being pregnant and hungry, I helped myself to one and Henry sharply said, "those are mine!" and proceeded to push his bottom lip out and lose his shit. I couldn't believe it. For one, there were TWELVE cookies there, for two he's never acted like that! Needless to say, we're working on the sharing and manners thing. ;)
My favorite is when I tell him there's a baby in my belly and Henry tells us that there's a baby in his belly too. The very best. "You have ghoul in yours belly and I have boy in my belly!" I have tried to tell him that boys don't have babies, but now he just finishes that last exclamation with, "boys can have babies in dier bellies, mahm!" *crying laughing emoji for days* I wonder how many people he has told that he has a baby in his belly?
His sweet kisses on my belly and him trying on baby sister's floral crowns for mom, remind me that everything will be ok.
I know bringing another baby into the family is going to take some adjustments, but I also know that bubba is going to be tender and caring and just adore his baby sister-because that's Henry Harper. <3
